What is coaching?

Coaching is the process of helping people to develop their capacity to think about life in new and creative ways so that they can accomplish what they really want to accomplish. It plays an enormously important role in the building and sustaining of great lives, organizations and extraordinary workplaces. Coaching helps people get un-stuck. An example of this is that while many leaders, executives, and managers in organizations seem to “know” intuitively what they need to do to move forward, few of them actually follow through because they’re stuck in some way. Or: How should I live my life? Coaching helps helps people become unstuck.

Coaching is based on a partnership between a coach and a client to provide structure, support and inquiry so that a client can: Take a complete look at their current state, including their assumptions and perceptions about their work, themselves and/or others; Set relevant and realistic goals for themselves, based on their own nature and needs; Take relevant and realistic actions toward reaching their goals; and Learn by continuing to reflect on the inquiry and feedback and on the results of their actions to achieve their goals.
